Paddled the Salmo River from Hall Siding ( 15 minutes south of Nelson ) to Salmo ( Hwy 3A ) the other day. The river is still high and generally is from April thru early June. Later the river gets low and there are lots of rocks to pull the canoe over. Fast water, some logjams and corners for quick decision making. The river is class 2. The river flows through the Historic town of Ymir. The reason the river is called the Salmo is that it used to be the Salmon but due to arsenic poisening in the river the "n" got dropped.
